Introduction

The catalog has the task of harmonizing and sharing the semantics of the data useful to ensure semantic interoperability in the interchange and use of data, in particular through interfaces for application programming (API), such as those found in the catalog of the National Digital Data Platform (PDND).

The catalogue collects in schema.gov.it - through automatic extraction (web harvesting) - the semantic resources already published by the individual public administrations in their own repositories of which the same entities are the sole owners, thus maintaining responsibility for the content.

As part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNNR) projects, the Department for Digital Transformation identified Istat as the implementing body for the NDC project for the creation, management and maintenance of the catalogue; at the same time, the involvement of entities such as AGID for its institutional functions in the field of technical interoperability is envisaged.

Istat develops the catalogue and implements it, providing, where required, technical and methodological support to public administrations in defining ontologies, controlled vocabularies and data schemes relating to its datasets. The responsibility for choosing and publishing a given semantic resource lies with the public administration that publishes it on its repository; Validation therefore remains the responsibility of the public administration itself.

The ownership of the semantic resources published in the catalog is, therefore, the bodies that own the databases to which the individual contents relate, without prejudice to the correct attribution of authorship of the same.
